IFDA Interior Design students on a study tour.
As a part of Interior Design curriculum, IFDA students are required to explore, learn and visit different design styles.
India's ancient culture has a lot to inspire and offer to contemporary Interior designers.
Temple design being one such that they need to understand and take inspiration from.
A visit to one such heritage temple site at Nagpur, and a special Guest Lecture was organised for our students by Ar. Bhagyashree Naidu (Interior Design faculty at IFDA ) in collaboration with INTACH Nagpur Chapter.
INTACH is the largest membership organisation in the country dedicated to conservation. INTACH works for creating awareness, conservation and protection of India's natural and cultural heritage in various ways.
Today it has chapters in 215 Indian cities, as well as chapters in Belgium and the United Kingdom.
The heritage walk was conducted for Rukmini Temple Complex, Mahal Nagpur, by Ar.Nitika S Ramani, Co-Convener, INTACH Nagpur Chapter.
Rukmini Temple Complex, that houses Laxmi-Narayan Mandir and a Shiv Mandir situated in the Mahal area, is also known as Munshi Mandir. This is the ancient temple built in the period of Raghuji Raje Bhonsale (IlI). It's approximately 220 years old.
It portrays a unique blend of different materials, like white marble, blue marble, wood, sandstone etc.
The ornamentation and intricate carvings done, depicts and narrates various stories from that period.
The carvings are breathtakingly beautiful and carved to perfection.
It was a great learning experience for the students they learnt about the different spaces in a temple design, elements of temple design and how to reflect them in their design thought process.
Such visits help the students in understanding things practically.
We at IFDA focus on the overall 360° development of our students, and prepare them for their professional practice.
